Alphabetical list of activities and clubs, schedules, and sponsors

ACTIVITIES

  • Activities are available to all Holmes students.
  • Students may sign-up to stay for activities when they’re offered on a particular day.
  • No commitment or forms are necessary.

 

CLUBS

  • Clubs are available to all Holmes students.
  • However, clubs do require students to complete specific forms ahead of time and require a commitment for a period of time, typically 6-10 weeks.

Academic Support

Academic support is provided throughout each week for students that need additional time completing assignments for their teachers.

Annandale HS Wrestling Clinic

Annandale HS coaches & students provide our Holmes students with the opportunity to learn the basics of high school wrestling in a safe and welcoming environment.

Annandale HS Football Clinic

Annandale HS coaches & students provide our Holmes students with the opportunity to learn the basics of high school football in a safe and welcoming environment.

Anime

Students participate in active discussion and activities that explore the world of anime.

Appian Board Games

Appian Board Games provides opportunities for our students to participate in tabletop strategy games. By playing selected games, students develop critical-thinking skills while engaged in a fun and challenging activity. Our students participate in a culminating board game competition against many schools within FCPS.

Atom Tutors

Annandale HS students provide one-on-one tutoring and mentorship to our Holmes students.

Art

Art Club provides opportunities for student-directed art and exploration of creative artistic expression.

Asian American Leadership, Empowerment, and, Development (AALEAD)

AALEAD and Holmes have partnered to support our youth in underserved communities through culturally responsive programming and advocacy. Both Holmes and AALEAD are devoted to promoting values of citizenship, character, and self-improvement among students of Asian descent.

AVID Club

AVIDClub provides an opportunity for our Holmes AVID students to meet with their AVID sponsor and fulfill their AVID requirements.

Basketball (Open)

Students participate in recreational basketball games and practice their basketball skills.

Basketball League 

Holmes students are placed on one of several teams that play each week for a quarter-long season. The league consists of multiple mixed grade & skill level teams with only Holmes students.

Basketball Club Team

Holmes students that have completed the required forms have the opportunity to be a part of our basketball team. Our team will practice throughout the length of a season, typically 6-8 weeks and will culminate in a one-time tournament or game against other FCPS middle schools.

Basketball with Coach Mac

Annandale HS coaches & students provide our Holmes students with the opportunity to learn the basics of high school basketball in a safe and welcoming environment.

Battle of the Books (BOB)

Students who enjoy reading may become part of our BOB team. These students work together throughout the school year, reading, dissecting, and analyzing a specific set of books. At the end of the year, there is a culminating competition between several schools in which our students and their knowledge are put to the test.

Breysi’s Craft Club (BCC)

BCC allows students to explore their creativity through objective-based crafts. Unlike the Maker-Space which is open-ended, BCC provides more of a step-by-step to creating craft projects.

Capital One Coders (C1)

Capital One Bank and Holmes have partnered to support students to develop apps and websites by learning how to code. This 12-week program is offered to any students interested in learning how to code.

Chess Club 

Chess club provides opportunities for students to meet and play chess. This club is for any student interested in chess no matter the skill level.

Cooking Club

Cooking Club is for students with an interest in cooking. The club meets once-a-week for a 5-week rotation. After the 5 weeks ends, a new rotation is offered for a new group of students.

Cross Country 

Cross Country is an official FCPS middle school sport that takes place during the fall season. Students interested in joining the Cross Country team will need to complete a specific set of requirements. Cursive Club

Cursive Club is an amazing opportunity for our students to learn the art of writing in cursive. Students learn both upper and lowercase letters while participating in engaging activities.Students earn certificates upon completion of the course.

Drone Legends 

Drone Legends takes a unique approach to incorporating drones in schools, assisting educators in teaching critical STEM skills through easy-to-implement drone curriculum for our Holmes students.

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)

D & D is a fun opportunity for students to gather and play in this tabletop role-playing game where players pretend to be heroes on an adventure.

Early Identification Program (EIP)

EIP is a partnership between Holmes MS and George Mason University. The purpose of this program is to provide support to academic achievements of selected first-generation college bound middle school students.

Eco Hawks

Students passionate about the environment meet to learn and discuss ways to protect and improve our environment. Students will collect recyclables and work collaboratively to create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment.

Esports - Rocket League

Esports will provide an opportunity for our gamers to take their skills to a new level, competing across schools within FCPS.

Fashion Figures

Students who have an interest in fashion collaborate, design, and create beautiful works of art. Students will typically learn many skills during this club including how to measure, sew, and marker their finished products.

Film & Photography

Students with an interest in film have an opportunity to study film, create scripts and storyboards, and lastly produce their own film.

Fitness

Students learn and practice healthy habits with a focus on physical activity and goal setting during fitness.

Flag Football (Open)

Students participate in recreational flag football games and practice their football skills.

Futsal

Futsal is a variation of soccer that allows students to practice similar skills (dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting, etc). All students of any skill level with an interest in futsal are encouraged to particiapte.

Future City Club

Future City is a hands-on cross-curricular educational program that brings STEM to life. Using the Engineering Design Process (EDP) and project management skills, students showcase their solutions to a citywide sustainability issue.

Future-Preneurs 

Step into the shoes of a business owner and experience the excitement of running your own company! From brainstorming product ideas to crafting marketing strategies, students will learn what it takes to turn their vision into a thriving business. Our future-preneurs will have an opportunity to showcase products at a Sale-a-Thon event hosted by Little Scholars.

Gaming

Students participate in playing age-appropriate video games for different consoles including the XBOX, Nintendo Switch, & Playstation 5.

Gardening Club 

Gardening club provides opportunities for students to learn how to develop and manage landscaping. This includes experiences in; planting techniques, plant selection, weather, and proper plant environment for a successful crop.

Gym Activities

Gym Activities provides students with choice and encompasses several different games including but not limited to football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, & badminton. Gym Activities is typically scheduled for Friday afternoons.

Hawk Herald Podcast

HHP is for any student interested in the process of learning, creating, & producing a podcast. Students have the opportunity to research relevant topics and interview students and staff alike to assist in their podcast production. Most podcasts are available at the end of each month for both staff and students listening enjoyment.

Hawk Spot

Hawk Spot is a safe and structured environment that provides students a place to spend time interacting and socializing with peers.

Keane’s Club

Keane’s Club provides a unique opportunity for targeted academic support and mentorship led by our school’s outstanding teacher of the year - Ms. Keane.

Lego Masters

Students have the choice of creating their own design with loose legos or they may create a set by following instructions for our large lego sets.

Maker Space

Maker space provides a hands-on opportunity for students to explore their creativity through self-directed building, making, and creating.

Movie Club

Students watch some of their favorite G-rated movies with their peers during movie club. Please note all movies shown during movie club are G-rated and age-appropriate.

Persian Culture Club (PCC)

PCC welcomes all Holmes students to come and celebrate and learn more about the Perisan culture including language, foods, and more.

Racket Sports

Students participate in several racket sports throughout the year including tennis, badminton, pickleball, and ping pong.

Robotics

Robotics provides students with the opportunity to explore their creativity by constructing open-ended robots, VEX robots, Sillbird robots, and more.

Running Club

Running Club encourages students to create  & track cardiorespiratory goals while enjoying self-paced runs throughout various environments on Holmes MS campus.

RC Cars Club

As one of our most popular clubs, RC Cars Club provides our students the opportunity to construct and race all different types and sizes of Traxxas RC cars.

Science Olympiad 

Holmes partners with Science Olympiad to allow our students the opportunity to increase their interest in science education by competing against other schools in team events. The events are hands-on and interactive and students prepare for the events throughout the year with the help of our coaches.

Soccer Stars

Students participate in recreational soccer games and practice their skills on our soccer pitch.

Soccer (Open)

Open soccer allows for students of all skills levels to participate in a fun and structured environment while strengthening their peer-to-peer relationships.

SSC provides students the opportunity to practice sport-specific skills that can transfer from sport-to-sport and allow students to improve their athletic abilities.

Technical Student Association (TSA)

TSA is perfect for our students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) that enhances personal development, leadership, and career opportunities through activities & competitions.

Theatre Sports

Theatre Sports is a popular club that incorporates competitive improv, learning, and fun for our Holmes students & staff.

Voices of Now

Voices of Now is a partnership between Holmes MS, the ASP, and Arena Stage. Voices of Now is an acting, writing, devising program for young artists. Students will learn and develop their skills in theatre performance including movement, vocal expression, and collaboration.

Volleyball Club Team

Students participating in Volleyball Club will get the opportunity to learn, develop, and practice their volleyball skills in both open and closed environments that help facilitate student success and promote lifelong fitness. As a culminating event, the team will participate in a tournament against other FCPS middle schools.

Write Brain Books is designed to ignite and inspire creativity and imagination while allowing for students to illustrate their own book.

Yearbook club’s goal is to produce a high-quality yearbook. Students learn writing, marketing, and graphic design skills.

Yoon Fit Camp

Yoon Fit Camp is a Friday staple at Holmes for our students that enjoy ending their week with a group fitness session with our amazing PE teacher and role model, Mr.Yoon.

Students collaborate with their peers to take on quarter-long initiatives that help to promote leadership skills.
